Indra Nagar playground in shambles, admin in slumber

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Apr 3: The residents of Indra Nagar said a park–cum- playground there has turned into a dumping ground even as they accused the administration of failing to conserve it.
President, All Community Welfare Committee Indra Nagar, Ghulam Nabi said: “We visited many officials seeking beautification of this park but to no avail.”
They said the 16 odd kanal area was presumably custodian land formerly owned by Mehraj-ud-Din who migrated to Pakistan in 1947.
“This open piece of land has been used by the locals as Park-cum-Playground for almost about last four decades... Sometime back some influential people got it allotted to themselves but the residents of the area stood against it and after a brief agitation the lease of allotment of the land was cancelled,” Bhat said.
He added that last year in first week of March construction of barracks was started on this piece of land, which the residents of the area resisted through peaceful protests.
“Thereafter we approached the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and at that time the people of the area were promised that the park will be restored to its former status of park-cum-playground. But a year on, nothing has been done so far,” the locals said
They appealed the Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon to look into the matter before “some land mafia flexes its wings to grab the land again.”
