MLAs, bureaucrats owe lakhs to Estates Department

Jammu, Apr 3: Majority of sitting legislators and senior bureaucrats of the state are the defaulters of the Estates department on account of residential accommodation provided to them in Jammu and Srinagar.
 As per data provided by the state government, some of these legislators include  MLA G A Mir tops the list  with an   outstanding of Rs 228800 followed by  MLA Sofi Abdul Gaffar Rs 105700, MLA Zahoor Ahmed Mir Rs 94600, MLA Abdul Razzaq Wagey Rs 61500, MLA Muzaffar Hussain Beig Rs 51600, MLA Aijaz Jan Rs 48000, MLA Prof Chaman Lal Gupta Rs 52000, MLA Sayeed Bashir Ahmad Rs 58600, MLA Abdul Majid Wani Rs  86100, MLA Mir Saifullah Rs 45918, MLA Khalil Ahmad Bandh Rs 32800, and outstanding of MLA AR Veeri is Rs 96350.
 Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Muhammad Yousaf Taing has an outstanding of Rs 88200, Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra Rs 24000, MLC Ajay Sadotra Rs  90490, MLC Javed Rana Rs 84150, MLC Vijay Bakaya Rs 64500, MLC Muhammad Amin Bhat Rs 47175, Bashir Ahmad Magray Rs 33090, and MLC Murtaza Khan having  an outstanding of Rs 33750.
 Senior bureaucrats including police officers are not far behind than the legislators as far as outstanding against them are concerned. S P Budgam Uttam Chand has an outstanding of Rs 53250, SSP PCR Srinagar Rs 31500, DIG Armed A Q Manhas RS 30000, SP Kupwara V K Berdi Rs 39000, former Commissioner/Secretary Health G A Peer Rs 31700, Accountant General D J Badhra Rs 51200, former Transport Commissioner Syed Fazulullah Rs 35200, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal Rs 28900, and CCF Razak Khan has an outstanding of Rs 26000.
 Interestingly as per official data, only MLA Harshdev Singh and MLC Jehangir Mir have cleared their dues to the Estates department.
 The government records further reveal that the ministers are entitled for rent free accommodation and former Chief Minister and MLA Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is also provided rent free accommodation.
