Jammu, Apr 8: The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued notices to 38 rpt 38 industrial units in Kathua district of the state for flouting environmental norms.
 Minister for Forest and Environment Mian Altaf, who was chairing a review meeting of the J-K State Pollution Control Board (JKSPCB), also directed the officials to carry out regular checking and initiate action against those violating the green laws.
 He also asked Deputy Commissioner to notify the ecologically-sensitive sites and prohibit any activity over there that can result in environmental degradation.
 The minister also took serious note of dumping of timber at the Kathua timber depot and asked concerned officials to release it among the consumers within one week.
 On this occasion, Altaf was informed by the officials that the board had seized as many as 223 quintals of polythene while notices have been disseminated among 38 unit holders violating the norms of PCB on environment and pollution.
 He was told that 50,000 plants of different species were raised at Hari-Chak forest nursery while 25,000 teak wood plants imported from Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand were raised in Sagwan nursery of Samba district on experimental basis.
 Furthermore, as many as 344 hectares of forest land was treated by the soil conservation department and an area of 243 hectares was brought under plantation as part of the efforts to increase state's  green cover.
