Srinagar, July 31: Reiterating his directions for restoration of Peer Dastigeer Sahib (RA) shrine at Khanyar here, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday stressed on launching immediate construction work soon after tenders floated for the purpose are opened in the last week of August.
Chairing the 16th meeting of Board of Directors of J&K Muslim Waqaf Board here today, the Chief Minister said that a well defined chart should be maintained for completing the construction in its original heritage structure and design.
An official spokesman said the matters relating to expansion, internal designing of the shrine in consonance with the original heritage characteristic were also discussed in detail in the meeting.
A power point presentation about the restoration of the revered shrine was made by the Chairmen INTACT J&K Chapter, Muhammad Saleem Beig explaining various aspects of restoration. He said that INTACT has preserved digital maps and designs of the shrine which will help to reconstruct it in its original heritage.
The Chief Minister announced Rs one crore for the construction of shop-line in Charar-i-Sharief for the rehabilitation of shopkeepers who are being shifted on account of development of infrastructure there. Dr. Farooq Abdullah has provided Rs. one crore out of Parliament Members Constituency Development Fund. Chief Minister directed for constitution of a Coordination Committee in this regard.
“Matters pertaining to the beautification of Hazratbal shrine, polishing of dome and expansion of mosque also came up for the discussion,” the spokesman said.
The Chief Minister who is also chairman of Muslim Waqaf Board directed for early formulation of blue print for the expansion of mosque at Hazratbal shrine complex.
The meeting discussed issues relating to the installation of fireproof strong rooms in the shrines to protect Tabarakats (holy relics). It also discussed measures pertaining to the security arrangements for shrines.
The meeting discussed action report of the decisions taken in the last BOD meeting, security plan for Assar-i-Sharief Hazratbal, construction of ladies Sheeshkhana-Hazratbal, illumination of Assar-i-Sharief Hazratbal, construction of BB Haleema College of nursing, setting up of farm for the cultivation of medicinal plants, merit-cum-poverty scholarship for students, administrative, financial and budget matters were also discussed in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Rural Development, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Vice Chairman Waqaf Board, M Y. Qadri, members of the Board of Directors of Muslim Waqaf Board and various senior officers.
