5 yrs on, lift irrigation plant still incomplete

Boniyar, Aug 9: Five years after the construction on the Lift Irrigation Plant Tathamulla in Boniyar was started, the project is still incomplete with work going on at snail’s pace.
“Despite spending lakhs of rupees on the project, the administration has failed to complete the plant within the stipulated time,” the locals told Greater Kashmir adding the work is going on at snail’s pace and is undertaken by the executing agency intermittently.
The locals also blamed the Irrigation Department for not taking adequate steps for completing the project.
“Completion of the plant is must for the welfare of people. But we fail to understand the reason behind the delay,” the locals added.
Village Sarpanch, Parvez Khan, said that an amount of Rs 8 lakh has been spent on the project. “The work of the project was started before the Panchayat elections. I will take up the matter with the senior functionaries of the Irrigation department and will discuss the issue regarding its completion,” he added.
When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, Irrigation department division Baramulla, Fayaz Ahmad said, “I am not aware of the project.”
