Market checking intensified in Valley districts

Pulwama, Aug 9: A market checking team comprising of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Municipal Committee, Police party headed by Naib Tehsildar Pulwama-1 conducted market checking today in Pulwama town.
A huge quantity of sub-standard, rotten items, meat and fruit has been destroyed on spot and seized 6 numbers of domestic gas cylinders and a fine of Rs. 950/- recovered from erring shopkeepers, an official statement said.
The team in its drive seized some weights which were without seal and not fit on norms from some shopkeepers. The team will continue its drive in the holy month of Ramadan to give a good buyer’s and seller’s market to the people.
Islamabad (Anantnag)
In continuation of special market checking drive, the market checking team comprising of Revenue, CAPD, Weights and Measures and Municipal Committee, Islamabad (Anantnag) conducted market checking in Islamabad (Anantnag0 town today.
During the course of market checking 08 shopkeepers were found committed violation under Essential Commodities Act. The shopkeepers were also found no displaying of rate lists. The team asked the SHO Islamabad (Anantnag0 to lodge FIR against the erring shopkeepers under relevant Essential Commodities Act.
Kupwara
A joint market checking team comprising Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology Department, Assistant Director CA&PD Kupwara and District Food Safety Officer, Kupwara conducted extensive market checking of various markets including Hijaj Market, Bye-Pass and Regipora markets of Kupwara district and booked 14 traders for violation of different provisions of the Standards of Weights and Measures Act and the Standards of Food Safety Act. An amount of Rs. 3,900 was realized on account of fine on spot from the erring traders. The checking will remain continue in future.
