Schoolchildren protest, block Airport Road

‘Where’s our school? Where’ll we study?’

GK CITY REPORTER

Srinagar, Aug 9:  Students of a local government school Thursday morning staged protests at Barzulla in south City following failure of administration to give them a “suitable alternative space”. The school running from a rented building is to be closed as the landlords are coming up with new construction there.
Blocking the Airport Road, the protesters including parents of schoolchildren accused the government of playing with career of the students for failing to find an alternative accommodation.
Sources said the authorities were planning to shift the school to Rawal Pora area. But the students and their parents objected to it saying “How come will a government school meant for Barzulla locality operate from Rawalpora?” “This is sheer lack of common sense,” the protesters said.
Meanwhile traffic remained disrupted on the Airport Road till some senior officials including those from police arrived at the spot and pacified protesters assuring that “needful would be done on priority basis.”
The protesters appealed Director School Education Kashmir, Muhammad Shafi Rather to look into the matter. Despite repeated appeals the Director could not be contacted for comments as his phone was switched off.
