AFSPA temporary law: Saifuddin Soz
‘I Was Misquoted’
Srinagar, Aug 10: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Professor, Saifuddin Soz, on Friday said that a section of the press had distorted his comment on Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) during a briefing session with the media persons at Jammu on Thursday.
“In response to a query on AFSPA I had merely said that my stand on AFSPA had been clear that it is a temporary law and it had to go,” Soz said in a statement. “What I had said last year was that this law had to go; but various stake holders need to be consulted,” he said. “Perhaps the consultations have been held during the intervening period.”
“My stand today is that AFSPA had been adopted as a temporary measure and now that normalcy is fast returning to Jammu and Kashmir, the issue of revocation of AFSPA must be taken with the authorities concerned,” Soz said.
“In a changed security scenario, revocation of AFSPA is possible,” he added.
