ZAHID MAQBOOL
Srinagar, Aug 10: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday castigated the J&K Government for placing the Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani under continued house arrest. The Mirwaiz described it as “religious interference.”
“Authorities have imposed curbs on Geelani Sahab’s religious activities and are even barring him from offering Friday prayers in the holy month of Ramadhan. I ask the government to lift the curbs on leaders because terror and fear cannot suppress our aspirations for freedom,” he said, addressing a massive gathering of people at the historic Jamia Masjid in Old Srinagar before Friday prayers.
Meanwhile the close aide of Mirwaiz, Shahid-Ul-Islam said “Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest as soon as he reached home after offering prayers wherein he criticized the government for Geelani’s detention.”
Mirwaiz said on Friday Following (Aug 17), an important resolution will be passed by the Hurriyat Conference (M) at Jamia Masjid which will be sent to the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and UN to “consider aspirations of common people.” “Upcoming Jumait-ul-vida should be observed as Youm-e-Qadoos and Youm-e-Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control. On this day large congregations would be organized at Khanqahs, Masjids and Imam Baras and a resolution will be passed before lakhs of Kashmiris at Jamia Masjid on the occasion. This resolution would be sent to the UN and OIC so that they can take into consideration the Kashmiri aspirations and emotions,”
Welcoming the statement of Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu that Kashmir is in the agenda of organization while maintaining that OIC should press India for putting brakes on the human rights violations, Mirwaiz said: “In the OIC meet at Makkah, the general secretary has again said that Kashmir is in the top agenda’s of the organization. OIC should stress upon India to stop rights violations in Kashmir end miseries of Kashmiri prisoners in jails.”
