Water scarcity in Lolab villages
SHAHID RAFIQ
Kupwara, Aug 10: Residents of many villages in Lolab area are up in arms against Public Health Engineering department for failing to provide them potable drinking water during Ramadhan.
Badly hit villages include Dooniwari, Rehmatpora, Khan Basti Cheepora, Kuligam, Krusan and Ridnag.
The aggrieved residents told Greater Kashmir that womenfolk were forced to fetch contaminated water from Nallahs as water supply was affected in these areas for past couple of months due to drying up of water taps due to drought like situation and they have not received potable water which the PHE department used to supply thought its tankers as an alternative.
The situation is worse in Halmatpora, Armbagh and Sohipora areas
“The womenfolk are fetching water from nearby Nallahs and there is every possibility of the outbreak of water borne disease in these areas,” said the residents.
