‘Gagribal K-oil depot threatens lives’

RESIDENTS SHOOT SOS

Srinagar, Aug 14: Residents of Old Gagribal have appealed the SMC Commissioner, Dr GN Qasba to get kerosene oil depot from a lane there shifted elsewhere saying it hampers smooth flow of traffic towards the lane.
A delegation from the area said the depot comprising of a tank is located near foothills of Koh-e-Sulaiman forests, in the narrow lane near Masjid-e-Hanfia leading towards residential area and PDD’s Receiving Station.
“The kerosene depot has encroached upon nearly half of the road. As a result we face immense problems to drive our vehicles through the lane,” the residents said.
”Besides, high-tension wires feeding the receiving station pass above the depot. Due to junction of wires, the area faces frequent short-circuits. In case of any mishap, the kerosene depot will be catastrophic for the entire area,” the residents said.
Also they said some people dump garbage including left over food near the depot tempting wild animals to intrude into the area risking lives of the inhabitants.
“We urge the SMC Commissioner to look into the matter and get the depot shifted to appropriate place in the locality,” they said.
