Targeting police
This refers to the article “They too are humans” (GK, August 15, 2012) by Raies Hassan Wani. The questions raised by the author need to be thought over. I myself being a son of a police officer know how much they suffer and how much criticism they have to take. I have always wondered what will happen if the policemen will go on indefinite strike for being looked down upon by the same people for whom they make sacrifices. There are some separatist leaders who have policemen guarding their homes 24x7, and still they criticize the police. Even the media has always played a negative role in presenting the image of police before the people. Recently we saw how the employees of a government hospital took lives of hundreds of infants and still people were silent. Imagine if out of these hundreds of infants only one was killed by a policeman, then what would have been the situation of our valley. There are employees of other departments also who are corrupt, indisciplined, and dishonest to their work but still it’s only the police department which is always the centre of hatred and negative criticism. A retired Dy. S.P was murdered when he was coming out of the mosque that too in the month of blessings and forgiveness. There was no condemnation from any front. Everyone should at least give a thought to the sacrifices made by these people and should remember that it is only when the policemen are awake during the night that we people sleep safely in our homes. We should realize that it is their duty to be strict because they have been provided with sticks and not with flowers.
