Eidgah to host mega gathering for festive prayers
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, Aug 19: Eidgah is expected to host mega gathering for the Eid-Ul-Fitr prayers Monday while Valley’s head priest and senior separatist leader Mirwaiz Dr Umar Farooq will address the Musalees.
While the prayers are scheduled to be held at 10:30 AM, Mirwaiz is expected to start his speech at around 9:00 AM, sources privy to the head priest said.
It was only after Mirwaiz expressed serious concern over the dilapidated condition of Eidgah earlier this month that the government woke up to repair it for prayers.
Mubarak Gul, Advisor to Chief Minister said all arrangements including Public Address System are in place. Sources said keeping in view the expected rush of people, the police has kept “extra ordinary security arrangements in place.”
Superintendent of Police north City, Tahir Saleem Khan and his team were seen finalizing the arrangements at the prayer ground Sunday. Highly placed sources said the Musalees entering into the Eidgah would undergo frisking.
“Also additional deployment would be kept stationed at nearby police station as a standby measure for disaster preparedness,” said a police official.
“Police is trying its best that Eid is celebrated peacefully and security measures aim at the same,” he said.
