4 labourers die in wall collapse

Jammu, Aug 23: At least four migrant labourers were killed after wall of an under-construction building collapsed at Sarore in Bari Brahmna area of Samba district on Thursday.
Sources said that over a dozen labourers were engaged in Flexo Industry Saroore Adda, for construction work when the incident took place. “A trench was dug up near the newly constructed wall for erection of plinth. Due to incessant rains in last few days, water had accumulated in the trench which weakened the plinth of the wall. Unmindful of the weakening of plinth, dozen of labourers were carrying out construction work when the incident took place”, eyewitnesses said.
They further informed that the wall of the building caved in burying at least four labourers under the debris.
The incident created panic among other labourers and amid hue and cry, rescue operation was started by labourers and police. “After hectic efforts, all the victims were evacuated from the debris but two female labourers were killed on the spot,” sources said.
Two other seriously injured labourers were rushed to Government Medical College Hospital. But they also succumbed later.
The deceased labourers were identified as Ganga Bai (25) wife of Manoj Kumar, Savitri Devi (40) wife of Sohan Charan, Sohan Charan (40) son of Shat Ram and Parmila (25) wife of Vikram all residents of Bilaspur, Chattisgarh.
Police said that it has registered a case in this regard and started investigation in order to find as if there was any negligence on the part of the factory owner, which led to the tragic incident.
