Thieves on prowl in Mehboob Colony
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, Aug 26: The residents of Mehboob Colony, Chanapora have complained that thieves are on prowl in the area adding that they managed to nab a few, and handed them over to Police Post at Chanapora.
The residents said that thefts in the area are on a rise for the past few months adding that in the latest incidents cash and other valuables worth millions were stolen from the area.
“With police failing to do the needful we laid a trap and managed to nab some of the thieves and handed them over to nearby Police Post,” the residents said.
The police, however, said it was ascertaining whether or not the nabbed persons were burglars.
“What they have done is that they caught some people on mere suspicion… We are investigating the credentials of the accused and trying to verify the reality,” a senior police official posted in the area said. He assured that the case would be looked into seriously.
Meanwhile the locals have appealed SDPO Sadder Shabir Ahmed Shah and SSP Srinagar Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari to personally look into the matter and also increase police patrol in the area.
“For now we are feeling unsafe as if there’s no police for safety of people,” the residents said.
