Cancer surgery performed successfully at Police Hospital

Srinagar, Aug 2: A team of doctors at Police Hospital here, headed by Dr Irshad Ahmed Kuchey, performed a successful cancer surgery yesterday, an official spokesman said.
 He said this is the second surgery of its kind performed outside teaching institutions of the state. “The Anterior resection with ureterouretrostomy procedure adopted for the surgery lasted for five hours and the patient Sonaullah is recovering well,” the spokesman said.
 Giving details about the surgery, Medical Superintendent, Police Hospital, Dr Muhammad Shafi Koka said that the surgery was performed on a patient suffering from Carcinoma of Sigmoid Colon with involvement of left Ureter. “Earlier the doctors of the Hospital had performed a successful surgery on a patient suffering from stomach cancer. It was a milestone achieved in the history of Police Hospital,” he said.
 He said that during the procedure Dr Irshad was assisted by his operation theatre staff and Anesthetist Dr. Baljeet Kour.
 Dr. Koka said that various other successful surgeries including Hepaticojejunostomy, open Prospatectomy, Hepatic Hydatid Cystectomy have been performed in the Hospital and now the doctors are focusing to achieve successes in other fields.
 The Medical Superintendent said that Police Hospital Srinagar is intending to organize a workshop in near future on Minimal Invasive Precto-Hemerroidectomy (MIPH). The workshop would be organized in collaboration with Johnson and Johnson India Ltd. which will benefit the patients suffering from piles and other related diseases.
 The Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad in his message has congratulated the management of the Police Hospital for this successful attempt. He expressed hope that the doctors of Police Hospital would continue their efforts to achieve excellence in the field of medical science.
