B Ed exam date-sheet draws flak

Paper on I-Day eve, centre next to Bakshi Stadium

GK CITY REPORTER

Srinagar, Aug 3: Kashmir University’s recently announced date-sheet for Distance Mode B Ed final examination has drawn from students on grounds more than one.
While the first paper falls on “sensitive” August 14 when most areas of the City are often under siege, the second paper is soon after Eid-ul Fitr.
“The first paper is scheduled on the eve of Independence Day when the entire City remains virtually under siege,” said a delegation of students whose examination centre is at Amar Singh College, which is adjacent to Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for the August 15 celebrations in the summer Capital.
Hundreds of B Ed students, both males and females are listed for the Amar Singh College centre. “How will we be able to go there when everyone knows the inconvenience people face ahead of August 15? Who will be responsible for our security?” a delegation of female students argued.
Moreover, the students said the second paper falls soon after the Eid. “We are not regular students who have to be stationed in Srinagar for classes but come from far off places. Second paper falling soon after Eid means that we will have to spend the festival putting up at some hotel here than our countryside homes reaching where it takes a full day,” the students said.
They appealed the KU Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmed and Controller Examination to review the date-sheet on “humanitarian and logical grounds.”
