Iranian president invited to Makkah summit

Jeddah, Aug 6: Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has sent invite to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend an emergency Islamic summit in Makkah on August 14-15.
Saudi Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Al-Kilabi delivered the invitation to Rahim Mashani, director of Ahmadinejad’s office, on Saturday during a meeting in Tehran, Arab News reported.
Invitations to the summit have been sent to all the leaders of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to attend the conference.
Meanwhile, Iran today said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will attend the extraordinary summit of OIC due to be held in Makkah.
“Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be present in this summit at the invitation of Saudi King Abdullah,” Mohammad-Reza Forqani, the Director General for International Affairs at the Presidential Office, told IRNA on Monday.
He added that Iran has always played a decisive role in decision-making processes of the OIC, noting that the extraordinary summit aims to discuss developments in Muslim countries.
