Occupation of Waqf properties serious matter: Geelani
Srinagar, Aug 6: The chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday expressed serious concern over, what he said, the reports about the forcible occupation of the Muslim Auqaf properties by the communal elements in Jammu province.
Geelani warned of serious consequence if this sort of process was not stopped immediately. “The matter has the potential to disturb peace in the state if occupied properties were not retrieved from communalists immediately,” he said in a statement.
Geelani said the Muslims of Jammu province had been inflicted atrocities by the communalists since 1947. He assured the Muslims of Jammu province that whole Milat-i-Islamia Kashmir understands their pain and sorrows and would not leave them alone at the mercy of communalists. He assured them that the Muslims of Kashmir province would stand by them through thick and thin.
Geelani termed as demonstration of sheer hooliganism the demolition of plinth of Waqf land by the local MLA at R S Pora, Jammu. He flayed the administration for acting as mute spectator to such acts of hooliganism. “It seems that these communal goons are enjoying the patronage of the Government,” he said.
Geelani warned that the communalists were preparing for some major mischief in Jammu and “for this purpose they have dumped huge quantities of illegal arms and ammunition in temples.”
He warned that if the Government failed to take notice of it immediately, the consequences would be disastrous and the Muslims would be at the receiving end in every respect.
Geelani appealed to the Muslims of Jammu province to rise above their Maslaki considerations and demonstrate unity among their ranks to save their life, property and honour.
