Interlocutors to revisit their report
Panel Members Arriving On August 30 For Fresh Exercise
ZAHID MAQBOOL
Srinagar Aug 7: With the Government of India having almost dumped their much-hyped report, the Centre’s interlocutors on Kashmir are again coming to the Valley this month “for getting feedback on their report” and to “redraft” it.
The centre is yet to convene the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security to discuss the report, submitted by the three-member panel of interlocutors to the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram October last year.
Taking to Greater Kashmir, Radha Kumar, one of the members of the three member group said, “We will be meeting cross section of people to get feedback on our report. We would again go to people and ask them what the mistakes in the report are. We will seek suggestions from people about what we should add to our report and what issues should be put on backburner.”
Besides Radha Kumar, other members of the panel include journalist Dileep Padgaonkar and former Information Commissioner, MM Ansari.
The three member committee will be staying for a week in Kashmir starting from August 30. The committee will not move outside Srinagar but will meet people at SKICC. It has been learnt from official sources that the panel had expressed willingness to travel to different parts of valley, “but government showed its reservations on their suggestion as it is not in favour of repeating the whole exercise.”
Asked what is the need of revisiting J&K for suggestions, when the government has not implemented their earlier recommendations, Radha said; “I would say there is some action. Opening of regional passport officer is one such action. I would not say many things have been done, but some things were done. We should also identify the obstacles in the solution”.
However, the civil society, separatists and mainstream political groups in state are surprised over the interlocutors again visiting the state to rework on a report which failed to gain ground anywhere from Srinagar to Delhi.
