Govt dividing Kashmiris: Geelani
‘Police Lying On My House Arrest’
Srinagar, Aug 8: Days after a youth was murdered in a clash in Ganderbal, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani accused New Delhi of orchestrating divisions in the society to weaken the struggle of Kashmiris.
“Their intention is to mar the ongoing movement. The blueprint for the division of Kashmiri society is formulated in Delhi. They want us to fight with each other so that we forget our struggle.
They actually want to continue their occupation under the dent of gun,” Geelani said at a press conference at his residence here.
Geelani termed the killing of Shabir Ahmad Bhat a preplanned conspiracy. “He was receiving death threats from the NC Sarpanch and his associates for a long time. He was already threatened by the Sarpanch to close the seminary and stop teaching Qur’an to locals,” Geelani said.
Intensifying the war of words with police after they termed the reports of preventing Geelani from hosting Iftaar party as baseless, Hurriyat Chairman said, “It is useless to expect anything from police department. JK Police has evolved into a system of lies, fraud and cheating. How can we expect truth from them?” Geelani questioned.
Claiming that Hurriyat (G) stand has frustrated the intelligence agencies, Geelani said, “In-charge Humhama police station categorically told Ayaz Akbar that I have been placed under house arrest. Even the vehicle of Sehrai Sahab was searched near Ahdoos hotel to see whether I am in the car. This exposes the lies of police that I was free to host Iftaar party.”
Lambasting the government for ‘misinforming’ Ram Jethmalani that deployment of policemen outside his residence were safety measure for him, Geelani said, “I have always rejected the government security. How can they be for my security? They are muzzling my freedom. My life is in the hands of Allah. Police accompany me even for checkup to hospital. Government lied to a former minister and noted lawmaker of India. This shows the height of their lies.”
Taking a dig at the claims of government that his presence at Friday prayers sparks stone pelting, Geelani said, “Stone pelting happens whenever there is harassment, barbarism, killing at the hands of government. Recently protests happened in Bandipora for five days against killing of a youth. I was not there. This is in retaliation to the actions of government.”
