JKLF organizes torch procession
Srinagar, Dec 10: To commemorate the World Human Rights Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front organized a torch procession Monday evening here to “seek attention” of international community and Indian civil society towards the recent life sentences awarded to Kashmiris.
The procession was led by JKLF Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik with hundreds of youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Holding banners and torches, the procession started from JKLF headquarters at Maisuma and ended at Madina Chowk where a candle-light protest was also organized. Others leaders who joined the protest included Democratic Freedom Party President Shabir Ahmed Shah, Javaid Ahmed Mir, Ahsan Auntoo and Altaf Khan.
Taking to Greater Kashmir, Malik said: “Despite India being a signatory to various UN conventions to uphold human rights, it has turned Kashmir into a militarized zone.” Malik called on the international community and Indian civil society to fulfill their promises. “We showed transition in the form of peaceful protests in 2008 and 2010. But in return 29 Kashmiris were sent to life imprisonment,” he said.
