CII JK delegates on business trip to America

Will press for removal of US travel advisories on Kashmir


Srinagar, Dec 11: A CII business delegation from Jammu and Kashmir has left for America to explore opportunities for business collaborations and learn from international best practices.
 The delegation led by Waseem Trumboo, chairman CII Jammu & Kashmir State Council, and Executive Director of Trumboo Industries Pvt Ltd, comprises young business leaders who own or operate small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
 While many companies have diversified interests, the major thrust areas of the delegation are hydroelectric power generation infrastructure, tourism management and food processing, a CII handout today said.
 The delegation shall be visiting to Washington DC, New York, California and Colorado from December 10 to 17.
 Trumboo said, “This is the first ever business delegation we are bringing from Jammu and Kashmir. Young entrepreneurs in the state are ready to look out for opportunities in international trade, expansions and partnerships, and learn from various technological advancements that exist globally.”
 He said: “The purpose behind the visit is to promote our local economy. The interest among members for this delegation also speaks volumes about how drastically the entrepreneurial spirit as well as the industrial environment is changing in the state.”
 While in Washington DC, the delegates will meet officials at the US Department of Commerce and US EXIM Bank to get an overview of the economic and investment climate in that country and specifically focus on opportunities for SMEs.
 In addition, they will have the opportunity to network with local businesses through an interaction with the U.S-India Business Council.
 In California, the delegates will meet the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and explore logistics involved in hydropower in dams there. In Colorado, the delegation will hold meetings and site visits in Denver and Aspen to learn about the infrastructure developed for tourism.
 Asif Iqbal Burza, Director Senator Inns Pvt Ltd and Ahad Hotels and Resorts said, “This is a great opportunity to promote destination Kashmir and to create awareness about all that the state has to offer in terms of unique natural resources and adventure tourism potential."
 The delegation will also push the case for withdrawal of US government-issued travel advisories to J&K, as has been done by countries like Germany, Japan and UK.
 The mission will end with a meeting with the New York City Economic Development Council and other interactions in New York.
 "The delegation to the United States is a welcome step that will help growth of entrepreneurial culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
