Dilapidated Kalantara-Kreeri road irks inhabitants
PEERZADA AARIF
Kreeri (Baramulla), Dec 11: Dilapidated condition of Kalantara-Kreeri road here has put lives of commuters at risk.
The 10- kilometer stretch passing through Kreeri, Watergam, Mangam, Tangwari and Kalantara Payeen is dotted with potholes. At many places, the road is without parapet walls making it vulnerable to accidents.
The road is an alternative route to world famous ski-resort Gulmarg via Kreeri. "The condition of this road is so bad that it takes us more than four hours to reach Srinagar,” the residents said.
For school going children, the road has become a source of inconvenience.
“Due to dilapidated condition of the road, we always reach school late,” said a group of students from Kalantara.
The locals said while most of the roads were repaired in the adjoining areas, this route has not been repaired for over a decade.
"This is sheer discrimination with us,” said Ghulam Muhammad of Mangam. The locals appealed the authorities to undertake immediate repairs of the road.
