SHABIR IBN YUSUF

Srinagar, Dec 15: Union Home Secretary R K Singh who is scheduled to arrive in Jammu on Monday for a one day visit would also conduct an aerial survey of Mughal Road.
“He is arriving in Jammu on December 17. He would review security situation and would conduct an aerial survey of Mughal Road,” Secretary J&K Home Department Suresh Kumar told Greater Kashmir.
He said Singh would not visit the Valley. “He will be in Jammu on a one day visit,” he added.
Informed sources said: “Union Home Secretary will be briefed about the steps being taken to avoid closing of the Mughal road during the winters and a permanent solution being found to prevent landslides from occurring frequently. Engineers taking care of the Road project would also brief the Union Home Secretary about it.”
Pertinently,  Mughal Road is the name given to the track which passes from Bafliaz in Poonch district to Shopian in south Kashmir via the Pir Panchal mountain range. The caravans of Mughal emperors, used the road to travel to Kashmir during the 16th century.
Pertinently, the State Government is planning an alternative power link from Northern Grid to Kashmir through Mughal Road to overcome electricity shortage in the Valley during winters.
