KU clarifies
This refers to the news story“Kashmir University has little funds for scholars” (GK December 10, 2012).
The fact is that University is working day and night to provide all facilities to the scholars and the stipend of Rs 2500 mentioned by your reporter is provided only to those M. Phil and Ph.D. scholars who are not able to qualify the prestigious examinations of JRF, SRF, CSIR, UGC, ICMR, ICAR, DBT and GATE whereas those who qualify these examinations get a handsome stipend of even upto 18000/- (p.m) from the aforementioned institutes and research bodies through our University. Despite all this the increase in the emoluments and number of scholarships for Non Net candidates also stands approved by UGC which make take its effect soon.
It is because of the seriousness and keen interest of the present Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad who gives top priority to research that a key position of Dean Research was created last year by the University to give impetus to the overall research activities in the campus. The office of Dean Research is a single window office and a full-fledged wing which provides all kind of support to the research scholars and is always available for responding to various queries and issues related to research besides providing valuable guidance to the aspiring scholars so as to take the research scenario in the university to academic excellence. To maintain quality research the university encourages the selection of scholars who have qualified national level exams to earn prestigious fellowships and already a number of our students and scholars received such fellowships. It would have been welcome had your reporter interviewed some of our scholars from this category who have won us acclaim at the national and international level. The faculty members are being encouraged to submit research proposals to various funding agencies, which will bring more fellowships for the students. Many such proposals are approved or are in pipeline
Besides this some more innovative measures are in the offing that would completely transform the research activities in a direction that would pave way for the quality and credible research at par with international standards.
