Police chess championship concludes
Srinagar, Dec 16: The Chess championship organised by Srinagar Police in association with J&K Social Spirit trust concluded at District Police Lines, here on Sunday.
In the event around 50 participants participated, in four categories of open, Under-15, Under-20 and girls. The participants also included some deaf and dumb players.
Abdul Rouf Dar son of Ghulam Muhammad resident of Bemina, Reyaz Ahmad son of Ghulam Muhammad resident of Mehjoor Nagar and Umar Majeed son of Abdul Majeed resident of Safakadal were declared winners in Open category.
Burhan Nazir Mir son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Bemina, Muhammad Hamza son of Arshad Ahmad Beigh resident of Bemina and Kamran Allahi son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir resident of Safakadal were declared winners in Under-15 category.
In Under-20 category, Momin Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bagdadi resident of Lal Bazaar, Basharat Hussain Wani son of Muhammad Kamal resident of resident of Rambagh and Khalid Mehraj son of Mehrajudin resident of Nowpora were winners.
In girls category, Farhana Mehraj daughter of Mehrajudin resident of Nowpora, Rukaya daughter of Manzoor Ahmad resident of Chatabal and Shayista daughter of Abdul Rashid resident of Tengpora were declared winners.
The SSP Srinagar, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari and SP City West, Sunil Gupta distributed trophies and mementos among winners.
On the concluding function Bukhari congratulated the winners. In his address he stated that physically challenged persons shall not feel dishearten and discouraged if they are suffering from deficiency.
He announced many concessions for these deaf and dumb persons from District Police Line like access to gym, departmental canteen or any other assistance they may require.
