India operates Israeli made UAVs
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, Dec 17: An overpayment of around USD 2 lakh was made to Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for carrying out depot-level repairs of unmanned aerial vehicles in 2008, Defence Minister A K Antony said today.
"Overpayment of USD 1,95,940 was made to IAI in respect of the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for the period from November 1, 2005 to October 31, 2008, for restoration of damage to three UAVs caused due to accidents, since the AMC did not envisage such repairs," he said in reply to a written query in Lok Sabha.
The amount of USD 1,95,940 was subsequently refunded by IAI, Malat on November 26, 2009, he added. India operates more than 200 Israeli origin UAVs which are serving the three armed forces.
