NC committed to empower Panchayats: Kamaal
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Dec 18: Endorsing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement on opening of more cross-border routes and making the Line of Control irrelevant for free movement of people, the Additional General Secretary of the ruling National Conference Dr Mustafa Kamal Tuesday said that “more interaction between the two neighboring countries will bring a lot of changes in not only the mindset of people but also in giving an impetus to the trade between the two countries.”
“Our party stand is clear. We have been reiterating that borders between the two countries should be opened for more people-to-people contact,” said Kamaal, addressing a meeting of Panches and Sarpanches at Beerwah in Budgam district.
He said the party is committed to a vibrant three-tier Panchayat Raj System in the State. He said the government will ensure maximum empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and that the J&K Panchayati Raj Act will be further broad-based to give a boost to the socio-economic scenario in rural areas.
“We must be aware about the false and mischievous propaganda of the Opposition, which is desperately trying to create misunderstanding and disillusionment regarding empowerment of Panchs and Sarpanchs. “In fact they (opposition) never wanted empowerment of PRIs in the State. Today they are relying on falsehood and lies,” Kamaal said adding that “people are wise enough to see their political bankruptcy and ulterior motive to grab power.”
