Chib constitutes District Sports Councils
Jammu, Dec 20: Minister for Youth Services & Sports R S Chib has constituted District Sports Council in ten districts of the State for districts, a spokesperson said.
Among the districts are Anantnag (Islamabad), Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Pulwama, Doda, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur, he said.
The spokesperson said the District Sports Council comprises Council Member as Chairman of the Council while as District Youth Services and Sports Officer of concerned district as Member and I/C Sports Stadia of concerned District as Member Secretary besides six district representatives of sports Associations recognized by the J&K State Sports Council as its Members.
He said the District Sports Council will monitor, supervise, regulate and control all matters pertaining to sports and coordinate District level activities of sports Associations and have direct liaison with the J&K State Sports Council. The District Sports Council shall have powers to recommend outstanding sportsperson of the District for promotion of indigenous sports & encourage local sports for awards.
The spokesperson said it shall also implement the guidelines in respect of achieving the target through District Coaching Centre. The District Sports Councils shall be the principal body for the coordination of the activities of various Sports Associations within the particular district. It will have the powers in assisting the Council in carrying out its developmental programmes and activities at Tehsil & Block level. It will also take measures for promotion of sports & games in the district as per the policy of the Sports Council.
“The District Sports Councils have financial powers to the extent of Rs 1 lakh per annum. The District Sports Council were constituted as per the spirit of Bylaws of J&K State Sports Council and decisions taken by the Sports Council at its 52nd meeting held April 2011 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister (President Sports Council) and deliberations took place in the 128th Meeting of Standing Committee which was held on July, 2012,” the spokesperson said.
