Kashmir worse
A girl is battling for life at Delhi Safdarjung hospital. She was brutally raped and assaulted. This has sent shock waves across the globe and civil society demands justice. This happened now but a decade ago even worse happened at Kunan Poshpora. The tragedy is that still the victims are knocking the door of justice which is an insult for Kashmiri womanhood. The incident of early 1990's rendered all speechless. Today the Indian citizens should demand justice for the mass rapes too that took place in the valley all these decades. What happened there is heart wrenching as women irrespective of their age were subjected to an inhuman treatment.
Rapes have occurred during crackdowns also when the male members of family were taken into custody on account of suspicion and interrogation, leaving the women unprotected. Kashmir has been witnessing such incidents of human right violations ever since. The irony is that these rapes were never taken into account. Shopian case being a classic example. Other areas like Bandipore, Poonch, Manzgam have also reported such brutal acts, but who cares. Today when Indian civil society protests against Delhi rape incident, they must not forget about Kashmir.
