Air service for Kargil announced

Jammu, Dec 28: New Delhi-based air service company, MANTRA, will put to operation 17-seater aeroplane to and fro Jammu-Kargil from first week of January.
Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Qamar Ali Akhoon said after attending a high level meeting of the senior officers of Civil Aviation Department, Relegare and Mantra Air Service Companies held at New Delhi, an official statement said.
Among others, Joint Secretary, Civil Aviation Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Deputy Director Lalit Gupta, Managing Director Relegare, Sanjay Godwani and Chief Operating Officer MANTRA, Pankaj Chopra attended the meeting.
The Minister said that MANTRA has decided to start air service from Jammu to Kargil and back for the convenience of the people of Kargil during the winter season as the only surface link to this mountainous area remains cut off due to heavy snow fall for about half of the year.
He said Rs 10,000 has been fixed as fare from Jammu to Kargil per passenger adding that the aeroplane has the capacity to carry 17 passengers at a time.
The Minister said that the schedule for operating the service shall be announced by the authorities at the time when the first flight will take-off for Kargil from Jammu.
