8 YEARS ON, GUHIDRAGAN BRIDGE STILL INCOMPLETE
People suffer, authorities mute
Khansahib (Budgam): Inhabitants of Guhidragan village are up in arms against the authorities over slow pace of construction work of a bridge on Shaliganga stream here.
They said work on the bridge was started nearly eight years ago to provide all weather road link to village.
“Ironically the bridge is still in initial stage. Our village remains cut off from the rest of area during rains when water level crosses the dangerous mark. This causes immense problems to over 200 families here,” the aggrieved locals said.
Inordinate delay in construction of the bridge forces inhabitants to walk over four kilometers to reach the Raithan-Budgam road.
“In absence of road connectivity we have to ferry patients to hospitals through rugged terrain. Nearest health centre is situated nearly six kilometers at Khansahib and we have to walk the distance. During snowfall or rains it is impossible to venture out. This poses high risk to patients,” they said.
“Four people have drowned while trying to cross this stream in past some years. The students of our village have to skip school during rainy season which affects their education. We many times visited the office of the Executive Engineers (R&B Budgam) with the request to expedite work on the bridge. But our request met with deaf ears,” said Ghulam Nabi sarpanch of the village.
