SDA sleeps on constructions in no construction zone
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, Dec 2: At a time when government has cautioned of strict action against any violation of Master Plan in the City, the norms are being brazenly violated in the Nowgam-Athwajan stretch of the Srinagar-Jammu highway where a huge building is coming up at a place where no construction is allowed.
For the past over a fortnight a huge building is coming up behind walled premises, on the east of the highway, in Srinagar’s fast shrinking flood basin area.
The construction has come up at a time when Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand has cautioned of strict action against those found involved in the Master Plan violations.
Sources said government top brass has taken cognizance of this and other illegal constructions coming up along the highway and other areas under the domain of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA).
“What is the enforcement wing and other top brass of the SDA doing?” questioned a senior official in the state government adding that it “speaks volumes of mismanagement within the development authority.”
Meanwhile civil society has sought a high level probe into “rampant illegal constructions which are coming up along the highway”.
Despite repeated attempts the SDA officials could not be contacted for comments.
