Bar hails Wajahat’s statement
Condoles death of Delhi rape victim
Srinagar, Dec 29: The High Court Bar Association has appreciated the statement given by the formal bureaucrat Wajahat Habibullah “wherein he has admitted that the Indian Army and the forces have committed mass rapes and Human Rights Violations in the State of J&K and no action has been taken against them despite of various FIRs filed against the Army/Security Forces in this regard”.
“He has vindicated the stand of the Bar Association. The Bar Association has filed various writ petitions before the High Court in this regard and enquiries have been conducted by the District and Sessions Judge wherein so many officers of Indian Army and Security Forces have been found guilty, but no sanction for prosecution has been granted by the Government of India against them till date”, the Bar Association said in a statement issued here.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir feel pain of the Delhi gang rape victim who has lost her life to sexual violence and accordingly the Bar Association condoles her death and the people of Jammu and Kashmir expect the security forces involved in sexual violence of the women in Jammu and Kashmir are in same way arrested, prosecuted and punished under law as the offenders in Delhi gang rape case have been arrested with promptness”, the statement added.
The Bar Association has decided to observe the Human Rights Day immediately after the vacation and the date will be notified separately.
Meanwhile, Salahuddin has termed the ‘confessional’ statement of Wajhat on the rape of Kashmiri women by the armed forces as an eye opener for the international community. “The international institutions have no justification to keep silent despite these clear evidences about the involvement of armed forces in the crimes against women in Kashmir,” he said in a statement.
