Good-bye 2012

and welcome 2013 the happy new year

THE YEAR ENDS

DR. MUSHTAQ CHALKOO

Few hours and few moments more that 2012 will be the thing of the past. We will miss you 2012. Welcome 2013 and happy new year to all of you. At the outset, we need to celebrate as the world did not end. Let us rejoice for a new beginning. What kind of a person are you? Nostalgic or futuristic; every December we ask ourselves this very question. For each time, it is at this time of the ‘year’ that we hold on strongly to the year that was and greet warmly the year that will be. We look both back and forward. We don’t want to lose a year yet we want to see the New Year. We rejoice in the lesson, moments and the events that made the year and pin our hopes in the dreams, longings, experiences and times that will make the coming year. Many things may go missing in the New Year and yet many things may add to the new time. What are your resolutions for the New Year? Well, I know, we look for a change.
Change is good and change is what we must look for; but it can’t happen over night. If you are open to correcting yourself and accepting realities throughout the year then you do not require a New Year resolution. If you are at a continuous job and believe in making a good work, then there is nothing new in the time for you.  It is you who adds new to the year as there is nothing new in the year. So make hay and embark on a new project and contribute to the new time. Find a small chunk of time, ten minutes an hour, or a just a stroll through your lane and rewind the time to remember the big things you did right this year. Believe me there will be more than enough time to tell yourself what you need to work in for 2013.
Do not spend tonight thinking about the future. Spend it thinking about you. What you have managed to accomplish, overcome, and bring to life. It is simply the idea and the work on it, that we find the world a manageable task today. Thanks to them who did it for us. It is because of work that we have new time and work needs to be made to carry the time on. It is because of work only that a printed word is already giving way to an electronic word. Desktops to palmtops and now to tablets, Office spaces to working from home, patience to impatience, quick to instant and 2012 to 2013. You need not see others doing better than you. You need to break your own records every day, because success is a fight between you and yourself and not with others. You need to learn that lesson from water to adjust yourself in every situation and in any shape but most importantly find your own way to flow, and then the new time does not stand for you, rather you stand for the new time. Happy New Year to all of you.
