4 decades on, Achan dispensary yet to be upgraded
CONCERN
Achan (Pulwama): Inhabitants of Achan village are up in arms against the authorities for failing to upgrade an old allopathic dispensary here.
They said the dispensary functions in a Panchayat building and sans basic amenities. “This dispensary caters to nearly twenty villages. There is no primary health center in the area and we depend on this allopathic dispensary. Due to lack of basic facilities, the patients face immense inconvenience,” the aggrieved inhabitants said.
They said the dispensary is even without a doctor. “The dispensary has just four employees and they usually sit idle throughout the day. A single bed for patients in the dispensary has outlived it utility and is unsafe for patients,” they said.
They said due to lack of basic facilities in the dispensary patients mostly aged and women face immense hardships. We have to rush to district hospital to treat even minor ailments,” they said.
Besides inhabitants of Panjren, Petipora, Lassipora, Armulla, Gadbug, Batnoor, Nawpora, Alipora, Hajidarpora, Niloora, Heff, Chillipora Shirmal suffer in absence of Public Health Center.
“Government has failed to provide us with basic health facilities. We have many a times apprised the authorities about the matter however they turned deaf ears,” they said.
When contacted the Director Health Services (Kashmir) Saleem-ur-Rehman assured to upgrade the dispensary.
“I don’t know why this dispensary has not been upgraded till date. I will take up the matter with the government to expedite its upgradation process,” he said. Reports compiled by Showkat Dar
