Separatists concerned over lifers to youth
Srinagar, Dec 3: Asking separatist leadership to frame a joint programme to protest against the life imprisonment sentences being awarded to Kashmiri youth, Chairman Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah has said that Dr Qasim Faktoo and various other Kashmiri youth have been denied justice by such sentences.
According to a statement issued here, he said: “Separatists should frame a joint programme to save the lives of Kashmiri youth and fight for them,” Shah said. " We cannot act as mute spectators and need to act."
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar in a statement here said: “These youth are political prisoners while as some of them prisoners of war and there is no reason to award them such sentences”, Akbar said.
JKLF (H) Chairman Javed Ahmad Mir and Chairman of Democratic Liberation Party Hashim Qureshi also expressed anguish against the sentence. Mir extended support to the Kashmir Bandh call given by JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik. "People should observe complete shutdown to express solidarity with the youth." (KNS)
