City gets organic manure outlet
JKSAIDC offers subsidy
GK CITY REPORTER
Srinagar, Dec 5: At a time when chemical fertilizers often come under criticism for being allegedly harmful, the government has opened an “organic manure” outlet in the City.
From bags which come in small size for kitchen gardens and lawns, to big ones for orchards and fields, all is being sold under one roof at Lal Mandi outlet of JK Sate Agro Industries Dev Corporation(JKSAIDC).
Divisional Manager, JKSAIDC, Muzaffar Gani, said the corporation was giving an initial subsidy of around 40% on the sales.
“Vormi Compost is the best substitute to chemical fertilizers,” he said adding the organic manure has no health hazards. “It is made of waste decomposed in earthworms,” the official said.
He said the public response was good adding that the corporation was giving 7000 quintals of the lot for “Saffron mission”.
“This year nothing but organic manure will be used at the Saffron fields in Pampore,” he said.
About household sale, he said the lot was available in bags ranging from 5 Kgs to 50 Kgs.
