'Switch over to environment friendly packaging material'
Srinagar, Dec 7: SMC Commissioner Dr G N Qasba has urged shopkeepers, traders and public in general to shift over to environment friendly packaging material and support the cause of making Srinagar polythene free city.
A statement said Dr Qasba was reviewing measures of anti-polythene drive launched by SMC here.
He was told that at least 2OO kilogram polythene was recovered by anti-polythene squad of SMC during a drive carried out under the supervision of Chief Sanitation Officer Manzoor Ahmed Turray and Anti-Polythene Officer Mir Mansoor.
The statement said the drive was conducted in the various areas of downtown city including Darich Kadal, Safa Kadal, Hawal, Nowshehra, Gaada Kocha, Gaadyar, Bohri Kadal, Zaina Kadal and Mahrajgunj.
“The polythene traders, shopkeepers and street vendors who were found selling polythene were prosecuted in presence of Municipal magistrate. The total number of prosecutions launched against the offenders during the drive were twenty-one,” the statement added.
