Speakers call for adopting proper statistical methodology

Srinagar, Dec 8: Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmad today said that proper statistical methodology was must to achieve maximum benefits in higher studies.
Speaking at a day-long seminar ‘Awareness about official statistics in India’, the VC said: No country can progress unless and until accurate statistical data is available for various research and documentation purposes.”
“Once statistical data is available only then we can arrive on correct decisions for the betterment of society,” he added.
Stressing the need for adoption of proper statistical methodology and tools, he said: “In our university a proposal is under consideration for the mandatory implementation of statistics in research methodology while doing M Phil and Ph D as it gives accurate scenario of that respective field and makes the research more authentic and in depth".
Commenting on the present efficacy of KU’s Statistics Department, Prof Talat said: "It is the ideal time to make this department more efficient by paying attention to its overall development. The other departments of the varsity can get hugely benefited from the expertise of the faculty members and experts of this department in day-to-day affairs and research areas".
Dean, Academics Affairs, KU, Prof AM Shah said: "Statistics besides giving proper direction to the research undertaken by the scholar also helps in managing administrative affairs."
Deputy Director, National Academy of Statistical Administration (NASA), Dr Devinder Singh on the occasion said the main purpose of the seminar is to make students aware about the importance of statistics and improve the research in statistical field.
He said: "It is the 7th program in a row conducted to make aware the students about the importance of statistics and opportunities that could be availed in this field".
Earlier Prof. Aqeel Ahmad, head, department of statistics and organizer of the seminar in his welcome address said that statistics is an important fabric for any successful idea or scheme and proper functioning of e-governance.
