Akhoon stresses for energy conservation

Jammu, Jan 31: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Qamar Ali Akhoon today underlined the need for launching a vigorous campaign to make people aware about the importance of conservation of energy, including Oil and Gas, to make the future of country secure.
The Minister was speaking at the valedictory function of “Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight-2012 (OGCF) organised by Oil Industry, Jammu and Kashmir, here at Hotel Asia. Akhoon, according to an official statement, said that women folk especially housewives have to play a pivotal role in conserving and preserving gas, oil, water and electricity adding that timely collective precautions can avert big tragedies in the future.
The Minister said that main objective of celebrating this fortnight is to create awareness about fuel saving tips during the day to day human activities.
He said that the consumption of fuel, like oil and gas used in human activity including transport, industries, agricultural and households can be reduced to a large extent if these tips are followed by the consumers.
He stressed for achieving the goal by launching massive awareness programmes in urban as well as rural areas.
State Level Coordinator of Oil Companies in Jammu and Kashmir, R K Shahab, threw light on the aims and objectives of celebrations of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight.
He said this is not a new concept in the State but the fortnight is being organised all over the country every year in the second half of the month of January. Senior Regional Manager, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPC) Atul Goel briefed about the activities during the fortnight. He said various events aimed at creating mass awareness about conservation of petroleum products were organised.
He said symposiums, essay competitions, painting, drawing, slogan writing, poster making and quiz competitions were held in various schools and colleges, while cycle rallies were taken out in various localities, besides panel discussions through electronic media.
Later, the Minister distributed mementoes and cash awards among the students who took part in various activities during the fortnight long celebrations.
