Government to constitute JK Nursing Council

TO BRING BILL IN UPCOMING LA SESSION

AKSHAY AZAD

Jammu, Feb 9:  The Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to bring in a bill to pave way for the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir Nursing Council- which the state never had.
Pertinently, the paramedical and nursing schools functioning in the state are registered with the Punjab Nursing Council as there is no such provision in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources in the Law Department told Greater Kashmir that state government has decided to constitute J&K Nursing Council and a bill in this regard has been finalized.
“The bill is likely to be tabled in the forthcoming assembly session which is scheduled to start on February 23” they said, adding that the passage of bill by the state government would pave way for the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir Nursing Council.
Sources further said that the constitution of the Nursing Council would give great relief to the Paramedical and Nursing schools functioning in the state.
“It is mandatory for any nursing institute to be recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, a state University and a state nursing council. However, in absence of state Nursing Council here, most of the Nursing colleges of state are affiliated with Punjab Nursing Council (PNC)”, they said.
Sources said at present the managements of nursing colleges have to approach PNC for recognition and renewal of the recognition certificate.
“For giving recognition to any Nursing colleges, a team of PNC visits JK state and after inspection of college, they sent a report to the PNC for registration  of college but it took lot of time in the whole process” sources said, adding that the constitution of JK Nursing Council  was a long pending demand of Nursing colleges   as the college administration face  lot of hurdles for getting recognition from PNC.
Sources said that after the constitution of state’s Nursing Council, the money which was siphoned to Punjab in the form of recognition fee would remain in Jammu and Kashmir. It will also save the precious time of students and Nursing-colleges administrations, who have to visit Punjab to get their colleges recognized, they added.
