Srinagar, Feb 10: Police on Friday claimed to have caught four eve-teasers who were allegedly luring girls towards a hotel in the City.
The police said: “In continuous crusade against eve-teasers and rouge elements, City Police north zone once again arrested four persons involved in teasing, taunting and even attempting to outrage the modesty of the minor girls in Khanyar area.”
“Acting swift on the tip off, police team from Khanyar lead by SDPO Tahir Saleem Khan rushed to KohnaKhan area and arrested four roadside Romeos who were chasing and trying to molest three minor girls of age around 16 years,” a police handout said.
“The arrested roadside Romeos were chasing the minor girls in tinted glass Santro car JK01P- 6789, passing indecent remarks,” the handout added.
When contacted SP North Shoket Shah said the accused were trying to lure the girls towards a hotel but the bid was aborted by the timely action of police.
The police said it was high time for people to take “proper care of their wards be it a boy or girl”.
“Parents should keep an eye on the activities of their wards and everyone should try to uphold the moral and social values of society… It’s high to think on this. What if the police hadn’t arrived at the spot well in time?” he asked.
Sources said later in the evening the SSP Srinagar Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari called the parents of the girls to his office and counselled them that they should take proper care of their wards so that no miscreant ever dares to try lure them.
Meanwhile police said a case vide FIR No 09/2012 U/S 294/RPC has been registered at Police Station Khanyaar.
