Chib inaugurates prestigious JPL
Udhampur, Feb 10: After the successful conduct of Kashmir Premier League (KPL) in the Valley, Youth Services and Sports Minister, R S Chib today inaugurated prestigious Jammu Premier League (JPL) T-20 Tawi Cup 2012 at Sports Stadium Udhampur.
The tournament is being organized by the Indian Army under ‘Operation Sadbhavna’ with the active support of Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K State Sports Council, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and Civil Administration.
Director Information, , Kh Farooq Renzushah, Director Youth Services and Sports, J P Singh, GoC 16 Corps Lt. Gen A S Nandal, Maj Gen B S Negi, Brig Sandeep Rawat, Brig J K Shukla, DIG, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Jagjit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, P K Pole, other officers of Army, Youth Services and Sports, prominent citizens and sport lovers were present on the occasion.
In his inaugural address, Chib said that the present government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah was keen to upgrade the sports infrastructure for the promotion of sports culture in the state.
The Minister said that the aim of this championship is to inculcate sportsmanship and team work in the youth of Jammu and Kashmir State and cementing the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the people of the nation and its defence forces. He hoped that the tournament would go a long way in spotting out the hidden sports talent among the youth particularly in rural and backward areas of the state.
He said the JPL would be played at the district level under Phase-I and after that the qualifying teams would participate in the Phase –II of the League matches at Jammu in April this year. He said outstanding selected players of this tournament would be sponsored for advance training outside the state.
In this tournament, intra-district matches for Udhampur district would be played at the Sports Stadium, Udhampur, from February 10 to 20, on the T-20 format between 16 teams of the district.
