Recent developments undermined credibility of CM’s institution: Mufti

Bishnah, Feb 12: Former Chief Minister and patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on Sunday claimed that credibility and authority of the institution of Chief Minister has been undermined due to recent developments in the state.
Addressing a public gathering at village Bana Chak in Bishnah assembly segment to welcome large number of people, who have joined PDP under the leadership of Kalmosh Mottan, Sayeed alleged that credibility of other democratic institutions was already eroded in the state during the last three years. “But due to the recent developments the authority and credibility of the highest democratic institution of Chief Minister has also been undermined. Such developments, especially erosion of the institution of Chief Minister, are not in favour of democracy in the state,” he added.
Pointing towards “rampant corruption and nepotism” in the state, Sayeed regretted that it was first time in the history of the State that the highest institution of Chief Minister is under cloud in the terms of crime and corruption. “People usually look towards head of the government for providing good governance and justice to them but when the head of the government is himself facing inquiry, from where one can expect justice?”, he observed, adding, “recent developments, especially when institution of Chief Minister is under suspicion, have been sending wrong message at lower level”. He claimed that credibility of highest democratic institution has been eroded and faith of the people on such institutions has been badly shattered.
Reiterating resolve of his party to change the present corrupt system with the support of the people, Sayeed exhorted the new entrants in the party to spread message of the PDP among the masses. “PDP want to change fate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir through democratic means”, he said and sought cooperation and support of the people to establish a new system of justice and equality in this region.
“PDP as a political party has been emerged strong alternative in the state because this party has earned credibility of the masses due to its programmes and policies,” he said, adding, “unlike other political parties PDP has never compromised with its principles just for the power”. “Our politics is not for grabbing power but to address aspirations and wishes of the people”, he maintained and pointed out joining of large number of people is clear indication that PDP is a party of future.
Highlighting achievements of his government, former Chief Minister said that PDP led regime had strengthened credibility and authority of democratic institutions in the state through its visionary policies. “Not only credibility of these institutions were established but peoples’ faith in such institutions was also restored during our regime”, he said.
