BGSBU Teachers Association observes strike
‘Demands recognition to ensure democratic academic setup’
IMRAN MUZAFFAR
Srinagar, Feb 13: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Teachers Association Monday observed a pen down strike against the alleged failure of the varsity authorities to fulfill their demands.
The president of the Association, Dr Asgar Ali Shah accused the BGSBU authorities of inordinate delay in recognizing the Association. “This is hindered our endeavour to create an academic freedom in the Varsity. “So far nearly 50 teachers of BGSBU have fled to other institutions as their problems were not addressed. The people at helm of affairs in the varsity are leaving no stone unturned to snatch our democratic rights,” he said.
The Association has given an ultimatum of a month to the varsity authorities to meet its demands. “We are committed to bring a democratic culture in the University by setting up an association which would address the problems of teachers. If our demands are not met, we will be forced to go on indefinite strike,” he added.
