Pulwama, Feb 13: Scores of people at Kakapora and Gangoo today staged demonstration against the Power Development Department for its failure to repair their electric transformer.
The protestors staged a sit-in blocking the Srinagar-Pulwama road for hours.
“Our transformer developed a technical snag 16 days ago and was taken by the PDD officials for repairs. However, the officials failed to install the transformer due to which the area was groping in darkness,” said Ashfaq of New Colony Kakapora.
Similar protest took place at Gangoo, where dozens of people came out to protest in snowfall against the unnecessary delay in repairing of transformer by PDD. The protestors said the inhabitants of the area were facing immense hardships due to non-availability of power during the chilling weather conditions.
“Our transformer gets damaged every month and despite repeated pleas, the PDD officials have failed to install a high capacity transformer in the area,” said Faiz Hussain of Gangoo.
Meanwhile, SHO Pulwama has assured Kakapora residents that their transformer would be reinstalled in the next 24 hours.
