Govt to constitute expert panel to assess quality of bio-degradable bags: Altaf

Jammu, Feb 15: The Minister for Forest and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmed on Wednesday said the government would constitute an Expert Committee (EC) to inspect the quality of bio-degradable bags being manufactured by various private sector units in the state.
 Speaking at a meeting of officers and Polythene Manufacturing Association representatives Jammu division, the Minister asked the unit holders to manufacture only bio-degradable bags as the government has banned the use of polythene in the state.
 The association members had brought some samples of bags which they claim were made of bio-degradable material.
 Responding to the claim of the association members, the Minister said that an expert committee would be constituted which will assess the quality of the bags produced by them and only than the sale and use of the same would be allowed in the market.
 Threadbare discussion was held for complete ban on use and manufacturing of polythene bags in the State.
 The Association apprised the Minister about their grievances and problems. The Minister assured the Association that their grievances would be looked into favorably provided they meet the norms set by the pollution control agencies.
