Srinagar, Feb 16: The next time you go for glass pane fitting, do crosscheck the measurement because the same could be fraudulent. And if your doubt comes true, you have a right to get the accused vendor fined.
This is what happened with Mushtaq Ahamad of Iqbal Colony, HMT who found discrepancy in the measurement of glass pane fitted in his newly constructed house.
“After rendering the service by measure, the trader forwarded a bill to the consumer therein showing the measurements and the cost of material (glass panes). The consumer paid the amount to the trader but doubted the measurement calculations,” an official handout said.
“The consumer made the measurement calculations by a third party which varied with the calculations of the trader. But the trader refused to accept such calculations and behaved rudely with the consumer,” it said adding he filed a complaint with Legal Metrology.
“The officer in charge of consumer Protection , MH Javaid, Dy Controller, Legal Metrology visited the house of the complainant along with trader, and crosschecked the calculations finding that the complaints were true,” the handout said.
The trader was directed to pay Rs 5000 back to the client, which he did on the spot. Moreover a challan was registered against the accused.
Meanwhile the Legal Metrology’s Srinagar wing has appealed the consumers to file in their complaints in writing or telephonically on 2310753.
